Today’s Wonder of the Day was inspired by braden. braden Wonders, “What is cosmetology” Thanks for WONDERing with us, braden!
Have you ever seen the anchors on the evening news? How about politicians on the debate stage? Maybe you’ve watched models walk down the runway at a fashion show. Have you ever WONDERed how everyone on TV looks so nice? In most cases, they have a lot of help from people who work in cosmetology.
Have you ever heard of cosmetology? It’s a field of work that includes hair, skin, and nail services. The word comes from the root word “kosmos,” which means “order; ornament” and the suffix “-ology,” which means “branch of study.”
A person who works in cosmetology is called a cosmetologist. What careers can you think of that treat hair, skin, or nails? The hairstylist you go to? The manicurist who files and paints nails? The artist who does people’s makeup for special events? All of these people are cosmetologists.
As you can see, cosmetology is a wide field of work. And it includes many jobs that you might never think of! Some cosmetologists work as personal stylists for celebrities. Others work for movies and television shows. They may also be employed for specific fashion shows or major events.
Many cosmetologists are also business people. They might own their own salons. Others sell hair care products or makeup for beauty brands. Many of the most talented people in the field pass their knowledge on to others. They work as educators in cosmetology schools.
Are you interested in cosmetology? It can be fun and rewarding work. But there are a few steps to take before you can get there. Most training programs last between nine months and two years. Cosmetologists also have to get a license, a process that varies by country and state.
Success in cosmetology calls for many skills on top of education and a license. The most successful cosmetologists have great people skills. That means they get along well with others and are nice to be around. They’re also creative. They help people come up with new, interesting ideas for their appearances.
What do you think it would be like to work in cosmetology? Would you watch models strut the runway in a hairstyle you created? Would you do makeup for the most famous actors in the world? Or would you rather help everyday people look and feel their best?
Even if the career path isn’t for you, cosmetology can still be a fun hobby! Many people like learning about it and practicing with friends. Others end up posting tips on sites like YouTube! You never know where an interest in cosmetology could take you.
